I just did that - and yes - now the speed is back and my screen resolution is as expected.

Next thing was to restart the PC and keeping my fingers crossed. SnagIt continued to work without being slow.

Then I changed back the resolution to the recommended settings in Windows - and guess what. And sure enough - once the resolution was 1920 x 1080 it worked like in the good old days when I bought the first version. I have a wide screen 5K monitor so after trying everything else I simply changed the resolution on my PC to 1920 x 1080 to see if that changed the speed of SnagIt. I noticed that a lot of the problems was related to high resolution monitors or having multiple monitors attached to the PC. I've tried every fix described above and also the 8 things to try out from TechSmith. I had all the issues discussed in this post. Now with this change its snappy and quick like any other snipping tool. And lag before this change was just terrible, but seriously awful, 10 seconds to capture something, then having the cursor lag and freeze all over the screen. I don't see any difference in my Intel or Nvidia card, it loads just as fast. I basically stopped using Snagit for this reason but now it loads in 1 second and does not lag anymore. At least for me, after putting the SnagitCapture executable under a fixed video card, its miles faster than before.

It does not really matter, what is important is just stopping Windows from trying to select the video card automatically.ĭo the same for the other executable SnagitEditor.exe if you want. Snagit will work equally well on either your discrete integrated card, but if you have a High performance like Nvidia you might pick that. By default, its set to Let Windows decide, and this seems to be the issue. Select the executable "SnagitCapture.exe" and the under Options select a video card manually. Then browse to the installation folder on which Snagit is installed. Search on Windows "Graphic settings", in the control panel section under "Graphics performance preference" select Desktop app under Choose an app to set preference.

In the past this mode was called Optimus (integrated + dedicated GPU) and you could manage it from your Nvidia control panel to select which card to use for Nvidia, but this is done by Windows now since Windows 10. The solution is to turn the Windows options that decides between the graphic card automatically every time you launch the software.

I suspect this is the problem, either the software or windows switching between one and another card, or not knowing which one to pick. I basically had to stop using Snagit just for casual screenshots.Īfter reading this it seems the issue is that Windows tries to select the proper video card (integrated, or nvidia) and this the main reason why it's slow. Windows Snippet and other tools are instantly. Snagit capture tool was horrible slow the first time it launched, like seconds slow, and lags heavily while moving the cursor to drag the screen. Solved for me by a person named Accounts in another thread.
